Cape Dorset Original Drawings

All Artwork

Until recently, original drawings in Cape Dorset were mainly used as source material for printmaking, a practice introduced in the 1950s by James Houston using the Japanese Ukiyo-e method. The success of the annual print collections created ongoing demand, leading the West Baffin Eskimo Co-op to supply materials and encourage community members to produce drawings.
